UEH organized seminar on "The Australian tax system: An overview and priorities for reform"

On the morning of October 25, 2019, at Campus 59C Nguyen Dinh Chieu, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) had a meeting to discuss the tax system and policies with representatives of the Crawford School of Public Policy at Australian National University (ANU).

Attending the meeting and discussing, from ANU side, there were Prof. Robert Breunig - Director of Tax and Transfer Policy Institute, Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU; Ms. Liz Ingram - Admissions Manager and alumni of Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU; and Ms. Ngan Le - Deputy Director of Admissions and International Scholarships - Australian Government Scholarship Group, Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU. On behalf of UEH, there were the participations of Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Vice President, Dr. Vo Tat Thang - Representative of School of Economics, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh - Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES), and Dr. Nguyen Phuc Canh - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of JABES; lecturers from the School of Public Finance, representatives of the Department of Research Administration - International Relations, and undergraduates and graduates studying and researching at UEH and other universities in the area.

 Prof. Robert Breunig - Director of Tax and Transfer Policy Institute, Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU presented the paper.

Professor Breunig is one of Australia's leading public policy economists, with numerous scientific papers published in more than 50 international journals on economics and public policy. His research has greatly contributed to the Australian public policy.

Delegates of the Crawford School of Public Policy from the Australian National University (ANU) attended the seminar.

The content of the discussion was around Prof. Robert Breunig's presentation on Australia's tax system and recommendations for tax reform for Australia. In particular, the presentation summarized some fundamental theories on tax issues, an overview of Australia's tax system concerning OECD countries, thereby pointing out the strengths of the system and proposals for future reform.

Delegates contributed ideas at the seminar

The discussion took place in a vivacious atmosphere with back-and-forth interactions between the reporter and interested delegates. Many questions were raised to the presenter, most of which focused on the connection with the Vietnamese tax system.
