The Institute of Smart City and Management (ISCM) under the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) connects with experts from the City Science Laboratory in Ho Chi Minh City and other stakeholders to research and apply the CityScope platform developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to simulate and promote urban development in Ho Chi Minh City.
CityScope is a platform using physical models combined with algorithms, computer vision technology, and urban data to create a model that allows users to interact and change the elements in the model to examine the economy - society - physics interaction of the city in different development scenarios.
The model is a helpful tool for simulating and researching, collecting, analyzing, researching, assuming, constructing, and predicting urban development in hot spots of Ho Chi Minh City based on a high technology foundation.
In Vietnam, this model has been applied in the research on the management of Hong river's water at the Water Resources University and was introduced at the seminar "Vision for a Creative City in Ho Chi Minh City" in 2018 and drew the attention of HCMC leaders.
At the Opening Ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City City Science Laboratory on April 22, 2021, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Le Hoa Binh emphasized: The fact that MIT, one of the top 5 universities in the world, being a leader in the field of engineering and technology, chose Ho Chi Minh City to be the home to the first City Science Laboratory of the Urban Science Network in Southeast Asia, has proven the attractiveness of Ho Chi Minh City. The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciates research on the application of the CityScope platform in analysis, assumptions, construction and urban development prediction in hot spots of the city. At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that, after the success of this project, the research laboratory and members of the research team will continue to expand to other areas to increase efficiency and expand the scope of application of the research.
he city leaders chose the Institute of Smart City and Management (ISCM) under the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City collaborated with Architecture Research Center, Multimedia Communication Laboratory (University of Information Technology), VLab Joint Stock Company and Sunny World Development & Management Corporation to research, build analytical models and make predictions of urban development in HCMC.
At the ceremony, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - UEH President, cut the opening ribbon and congratulated the partners, hoping that the experience and knowledge gaining from this project will be applied in urban planning management in HCMC in the future.
We hope that this partnership will promote the research and application of domestic and foreign scientific and technological advances in the research and management of urban architecture in Ho Chi Minh City.
