Sip and Share: Fostering Equality with SOGIESC

The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) organized the topic “Learn about SOGIESC" on September 14, 2023 to discuss the most fundamental information about the concept of sex and gender. By raising societal awareness of the diversity in sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC), we can encourage sex education and create safer learning environments.

Be who you are and love who you are

Together with speaker Eric Pham, an LGBTQ social activist and co-founder of Hanoi Queer, he began the event with a humorous introduction: "I can get too much coffee, I am colorblind, and I do not like watching football. What (ever) makes you a minority?

His query sparked conversation, sharing, and attentive listening throughout the entire auditorium. Some people have odd hobbies, some people have seafood allergies, and some people suddenly fall in love - a special, "minority" kind of love.

Mr. Eric led the students through the core ideas of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC). By doing so, he imparts to others the proper way to behave and to view issues involving gender diversity. Encourage students to be confident in who they are, to accept themselves as they are.

His openness to sharing, which promoted self-love, integration, and tolerance, helped the students in the auditorium that day better understand and empathize with one another. Everyone left the workshop with a message for a more equal, harmonious, and civilized society.

The right information about SOGIESC and awareness of the effects of gender inequality, according to DSA - UEH, will allow students to use more suitable coping mechanisms for challenges. Through the occasion, UEH fosters a community that encourages acceptance, diversity, equity, and inclusion while also assisting students in discovering more about themselves. In the future, inspire the students to continue being present and speaking up for their communities.
