Pedaling Towards the Future - UEH for Sustainable Development

In anticipation of World Bicycle Day on June 3, 2023, the "Cycling - ISB Cycling Club" of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH-ISB) successfully organized "Pedaling Towards the Future." The occasion witnessed a remarkable turnout of distinguished ISB managers, esteemed lecturers, and dedicated staff members, all joining the celebration of the importance of cycling and sustainable development.

Cycling for the Environment: Positive Global Spread

In recent discussions surrounding the promotion of green living and sustainable transportation, the benefits of cycling have taken center stage. Recognized as a powerful tool in minimizing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, cycling has emerged as a key contributor to mitigating climate change and preserving the environment. Beyond its environmental impact, cycling also offers a multitude of health benefits, serving as an effective form of exercise that reduces the risk of various diseases, including cardiovascular issues, stroke, diabetes, and other prevalent illnesses.

Bicycles have emerged as a universally acknowledged environmentally friendly solution, gaining recognition from governments worldwide. Many countries have implemented diverse measures to promote bicycle usage, with these initiatives being met with enthusiastic support from communities.

Recognizing the significance of bicycles, the United Nations General Assembly, in 2018, adopted a resolution designating June 3rd as "World Bicycle Day" annually. This momentous resolution aims to galvanize countries to actively promote cycling, fostering improved health, environmental preservation, and social development.

UEH's Sustainable journey

In its ongoing pursuit of becoming a leading multidisciplinary institution dedicated to sustainable development, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has consistently demonstrated its commitment to achieving the United Nations' 17 global sustainable development goals.

One notable initiative that highlights UEH's dedication to sustainability is its active promotion and encouragement of cycling among faculty, staff, and students. The university consistently encourages individuals to choose bicycles as their preferred mode of transportation, advocating for a shift away from motorcycles and cars. Additionally, UEH actively promotes the use of public transportation, such as buses, as a means of ensuring safety and financial savings for its community.

These efforts are an integral part of UEH's broader commitment to building a sustainable future and reducing its environmental footprint. By prioritizing sustainable transportation options, the university aims to minimize carbon emissions, improve air quality, and foster a greener, healthier campus environment.

Thus, the response from UEH-ISB to "World Bicycle Day" is a clear indicator that the university has embraced not only the transformative power of cycling, but also its role in being a key component of their green initiatives.

The program presented an exceptional opportunity to prioritize their health through engaging in cycling activities. Beyond individual health benefits, the initiative placed significant emphasis on environmental protection, striving to minimize negative impacts while fostering social development.

Participating in “Pedaling Towards the Future” offered much more than mere excitement; it opened doors for individuals to enhance their well-being while cultivating a heightened awareness of cycling's importance. The club recognized that cycling extends beyond being a mere mode of transportation, evolving into a catalyst for achieving a harmonious balance between humans and nature. To sustain this positive lifestyle, the club established a regular cycling schedule, with twice-weekly sessions dedicated to promoting physical activity and fostering a deep appreciation for the environment.
