Official Launch of “Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City: Results of 2023 and Forecast 2024”

On January 4, 2024, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City officially held a seminar to launch "Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City: Results of 2023 and Forecast 2024". This was a research published by UEH in coordination with the Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City to provide a comprehensive view of Ho Chi Minh City's Economy in 2023, including achieved results, forecasts, prospects for 2024, and suggested policies for the local authority.

Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City was a research published by University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in coordination with the Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City, with advice from Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Council of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - Director of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Khac Hoang - Director of the Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Khanh Nam - Vice Rector of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government. The co-editor was Dr. Ho Hoang Anh, School of Economics - UEH and Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City.

The publication's first issue will be launched in early 2024 and is expected to be published annually. This year, with the theme "Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City: Results of 2023 and Forecast 2024", the publication will provide a comprehensive view of Ho Chi Minh City's economic situation in 2023, achieved results, forecasts, prospects for 2024, and policy suggestions for Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, the publication has 3 main contents: (1) Overview of the world and Vietnamese economy; (2) Ho Chi Minh City's economic growth in 2023; (3) Ho Chi Minh City's economic outlook in 2024 and policy suggestions.

Therefore, in order to officially release the publication, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) coordinated with Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City to organize the launching seminar of "Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City: Results of 2023 and Forecast 2024" on the morning of January 4, 2024; concurrently, creating a forum to exchange and discuss research results between researchers and policymakers in Ho Chi Minh City.

Overview of the seminar

Attending the seminar, on the part of representatives of leaders of Ho Chi Minh City Departments and businesses, there were: Mr. Nguyen Khac Hoang - Director of Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Le Truong Hai Hieu - Head of Economic and Budget Committee, Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; Dr. Tran Anh Tuan - Head of Ho Chi Minh City Business Management and Innovation Board; Dr. Truong Minh Huy Vu - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Development Research; Dr. Le Anh Tuan - Deputy General Director of Dragon Capital Vietnam Company.

On behalf of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, there were Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of the University; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Deputy Director of the University; Prof.Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Deputy Director of the University; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Khanh Nam - Vice Rector of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies, together with lecturers and leaders of Schools/Institutes of UEH.

In addition, there were representatives of the State Bank of Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City and representatives of economics major Universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Council of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City - shared: "University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is a multi-disciplinary University. In addition to providing various degree programs, it engages in scientific research, policy consulting, and scientific criticism. UEH also has research coordination programs, publish research results for production, business and leadership, and management consulting. The Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City was conducted by University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City. The report will be a useful tool for City leaders in the process of building and administering its socio-economic development policy. At the same time, it is also an important reference for investors, domestic and foreign businesses to get more information on investment orientation and market expansion in business development strategies in Ho Chi Minh City. Hopefully, this Report will be well received and will contribute to the economic and social development of Ho Chi Minh City.”

Mr. Nguyen Khac Hoang - Director of Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City – stated: "More than a year of research, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and Statistical Office of Ho Chi Minh City officially published the Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City. The cooperation of the two units is expected to bring necessary information, contributing to the future development of Ho Chi Minh City. This cooperation will certainly continue to be enhanced in the future, not only contributing to Ho Chi Minh City but also to the Southeast and the South of the country. We look forward to receiving everyone's companionship so that we can together contribute, improve, and propose practical solutions for this development."

At the seminar, on behalf of the research team, Dr. Ho Hoang Anh - City University of Economics Ho Chi Minh (editor) presented the content of "Macroeconomic Report of Ho Chi Minh City". Delegates gave many opinions discussing the City's macroeconomics in the context of complex developments in the world economy, thereby, proposing policies and solutions to contribute to achieving the goal of transforming the economic model in the medium term. Beyond that, this medium-term goal was a part of Ho Chi Minh City becoming a growth pole of the Southeast of the country.
