JABES discussing with the Journal of Education regarding the Experience of Maintaining High Ranking for Journals in SCOPUS

On the afternoon of August 16, 2024, a delegation from the Journal of Education under the Ministry of Education and Training visited UEH and worked with the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES) to exchange experiences on strategies, roadmaps, methods, and techniques for building and maintaining a high-ranking in SCOPUS.

At the beginning of the session, Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai – Editor-in-Chief of JABES - introduced each member of JABES and their roles. On behalf of Journal of Education, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Tien Trung - Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Education represented the delegation to introduce each member, including Mr. Ha Van Dung - Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Nguyen Huy Hung - Head of Secretariat, Mr. Truong Van Thao - Deputy Secretary, Ms. Truong My Linh - Accountant, Ms. Hoang Khanh Linh and Mr. Nguyen Le Van An - English Editor of Journal of Education.

Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai welcomed the Journal of Education delegation: “JABES is extremely pleased to welcome the Journal Education to visit and to work with JABES at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. In principle, JABES will wholeheartedly share what JABES has experienced. In fact, the current difficulties of the Journal of Education are similar to that of JABES more than 5 years ago. There is nothing better than the self-efforts of the Journal and your leadership and investment from the training institution. If the Journal of Education has more experiences that JABES has gone through, it will achieve the goal of joining SCOPUS faster.”

Overview of the working session

Dr. Huynh Luu Duc Toan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of JABES - presented the experiences and the lessons in the process of bringing JABES into SCOPUS. Dr. Huynh Luu Duc Toan also presented the history of JABES and the process of joining SCOPUS. In accordance with Dr. Huynh Luu Duc Toan, the journal needs to select its own aims and scopes to specify its field of expertise related to the journal's name in order to have a strategy for receiving articles and editing properly according to the publication criteria. The important thing in bringing a journal into the international rankings is to increase the level of recognition of the journal internationally through methods listed as organizing international conferences, organizing seminars, and signing a publishing platform agreement with an international publisher.

Subsequently, Mr. Nguyen Quang Binh - Editorial Secretary of JABES's English version - also had some comments on the interface platform when observing the Journal of Education website, and further explained the necessity of linking with an international publisher.

Listening to these experiences, the Journal of Education also had questions that were very close to the reality. Professor Nguyen Trong Hoai gave suggestions to enhance the recognition of the journal in international academic forums.

With the experience from JABES joining SCOPUS and continuing to maintain the Q1 ranking, the Journal of Education, which joined ACI in July 2024, can apply and effectively implement in the upcoming time with the expectation of shortening the expected time to join SCOPUS. The experience exchange between the two journals is an important step to promote the future relationship between JABES of UEH and the Journal of Education under the Ministry of Education and Training with the goal of having another Vietnamese journal join the international academic community, and beyond.
